Weaving the City with Its Heart
A new center for urban gathering and cohesion.

Located in a city historically fragmented by a vehicular road that turned its main plaza into a residual space, this intervention transforms the area into a true urban heart. The proposal, winner of a public competition and developed for the Cota City Hall, seeks to reclaim space dominated by automobiles in favor of people and their everyday and cultural activities.

Covering an area of 12,000 m², the new design eliminates the existing road and creates a central space depressed by 1.2 meters, giving greater prominence to the surrounding architecture and landscape. Majuy Hill becomes the main visual axis, framed by a circular layout that organizes peripheral access points, resolves elevation changes, and structures a multifunctional center adaptable to daily life and public events.

The design also incorporates a temporal dimension: the church tower casts its shadow over the center of the plaza, functioning as a sundial. During the rainy season, the central area collects water and transforms into a lake, reimagining the plaza as a living, dynamic, and ever-changing landscape.
