Weaving through Courtyards and the Rhythm of Music
An infrastructure connecting territory, culture, and community.

Perales Airport is part of a project developed by the National University of Colombia in collaboration with the Civil Aeronautics Authority, aiming to renew the national airport system by creating new infrastructures that connect the country’s diverse landscapes and local communities.

Beyond facilitating aircraft arrivals, the airport is envisioned as a meeting place that fosters interaction among individuals, promoting a deeper connection with themselves, with others, and with the environment.

The architectural ensemble consists of a control tower, a new fire station, and a passenger terminal, all integrated with the existing airport through a parking system designed as green, landscaped spaces. These temporary vehicular reception areas connect to a nearby body of water via educational trails among native vegetation, culminating in an entrance plaza featuring a chapel and the terminal’s reception platform, thus creating a public recreational system.
The terminal’s facade incorporates a rhythmic composition inspired by musical patterns, paying tribute to Ibagué, known as the “Musical City of Colombia.”
